The Sony KDL52S5100 is the 52″ model in the entry level 1080p Sony KDLS5100 series. It is a more basic unit missing out many of the new features to the Sony Bravia family, yet shines brightly against some similarly priced and entry level 1080p sets from other manufacturers thanks the Sony KDL52S5100 52″ LCD TV’s 10-bit panel and awesome imagining algorithms, processing and engines.
Stepping up from the S5100 series to the KDL-52V5100 52″ LCD the most important upgrades include slightly improved picture quality, a doubling of the refresh rate from 60Hz to 120Hz and a greater level of connectivity.
Stepping up again to the W5100 series and the KDL-52W5100 52″ LCD, picture quality and contrast ratio again is increased with a new Bravia Engine 3 making its first appearance and making big gains in quality and performance. New internet features, widgets, multimedia and streaming content options are first found on the KDL-W5100 series.
Upgrading further to the KDL-Z5100 series and the 52″ KDL-52Z5100, you start to hit the high end of the spectrum. The main addition over the W5100 on the Z5100 is MotionFlowRefresh Rate is pushed up the an astonishing 240Hz and picture quality and performance are truly astounding compared to the lower end.
At the very top of the line is the Sony KDL52XBR9 52″ LCD and the KDL-XBR9 series. It has all of the high-end features of the Z5100 models and takes picture quality a step further with its new backlighting and software additions. Live color creation tech along with WCG-CCFL backlighting allow the XBR9 to have the absolute best picture quality of the current Bravia LCD HDTVs.
