Samsung B8500 | Compare B8500 vs B8000 vs B7000 vs B6000 LED

Posted in Samsung HDTV, Samsung LED, Samsung UNB8500 LED Series

The flagship models of the year, and the highest performing HDTV to date, the Samsung Luxia UNB8500 series LED LCD HDTVs consisting of the 46-inch UN46B8500 LED and 55-inch UN55B8500 LED are the first of the Luxia LED family in 2009 to feature Local-Dimming technology. The UNB6000, UNB7000 and UNB8000 are edge-lit leds, and as such, don’t even come close to matching the insane picture quality, accuracy, and levels of the B8500 models. They feature all of the high end features of the previously most expensive Luxia B8000 series as well such as Auto Motion Plus 240Hz, InternetTV and Yahoo Widgets (with new widgets to allow for cool things like instant messaging, twitter messages, facebook messages and much more) and everything else the Luxia family has to offer. They are not cheap, but that goes out without saying when you read Samsung UN46B8500 reviews and Samsung UN55B8500 reviews and they are said “the best picture quality ever seen, reviewed or professionally tested”

Below are lists of the major differences between the Luxia UN46B8500 and Luxia UN55B8500 when they are compared versus the B8000, B7000 and B6000 series counterparts:

The next highest end Samsung televisions available right now, these still offer the same edge back lit tech as the others and lack the Local dimming of the B8500 series, resulting in drastic and very noticeably decreases in picture performance (consisting of the 46 inch Samsung UN46B8000 LED and 55 Inch Samsung UN55B8000 led models) the major differences between the B8500 and B8000 leds are:

  • Loss of picture quality through inferior edge lit versus local dimming led technology
  • The 1.6″ depth of the UN-B8500 LEDs is thicker than the ultra slim and teeny 1.2″ depth of the B8000
  • New widgets such as rallycast. Access your twitter, facebook, and text messages on screen… do you fantasy sports league stuff through a variety of providers, and much more with new and improved internet features for the flagship Samsung UN46B8500 and Samsung UN55B8500 televisions

Sitting firmly in the middle of the Luxia LED family, the B7000 series consisting of the 40 inch Samsung UN40B7000 LED, 46 inch Samsung UN46B7000 LED and 55 Inch Samsung UN55B7000 led models, offer shoppers a middle of the road type of offering, giving you great but not greatest type of product on all fronts, with all the cool internet and media features, but a decrease in picture performance and quality in favour of price. Major differences between B8500 and B7000 models include:

  • Same local dimming, picture quality, new widgets, and thicker depth changes at already covered in first part
  • The B7000 doesn’t have the 240Hz refresh rate of the two step up series, it instead features 120Hz technology and 4ms response time (as opposed to 2ms) which will dramatically decrease picture performance
  • The UN40B7000,UN46B7000 and UN55B7000 have an IR remote control, a downgrade from the RF control of the above two which can be used without direcetly point the remote at the tv or having a clear range of site to a center on the HDTV
  • The B7000 models also are offered in red touch of color, instead of the blue hints found in the Samsung Luxia 8 series leds

The cheapest of the 4 stunning LED Luxia series line-ups, the B6000 series consisting of the 40 inch Samsung UN40B6000 LED and 46 inch Samsung UN46B6000 LED LCD televisions, further cut out features found on the B7000 to offer price-conscience consumer a more basic set, with the same picture quality as its step-up but without the extra. Major differences between the B8500 vs B6000 series include:

  • ame local dimming, picture quality, 240Hz to 120Hz downgrade, remote control downgrade and red touch of color differences already covered above
  • No Medi@2.0 or InternetTV features… The b6000 lacks the internet features mentioned above as well as the whole media content, widgets and services the other 3 offer…

There is an important difference on Dynamic Contrast ratio among the B8500 (7,000,000:1) and the B8000 (5,000,0001)
For example, the Sony KDL XBR10 has a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of only 1,000,000:1.

Actually, Dynamic Contrast Ratio (for deep blacks) becomes a numbers game after 1,000,000:1. The biggest problems with LCDs are image smearing and edge definition artifacts, which Sony’s XBR10 has managed to handle with better success than the Samsung B8500.
