Compare Z5100 vs W5100 vs V5100 and XBR9
There are a number of small differences between the Sony KDLXBR9, KDLZ5100, KDLW5100, KDLV5100 and KDLS5100 series and… the most significant differences between models have been listed below for your convenience.
Compare Sony Z5100 vs XBR9:
While both models are in the upper end of the Sony 2009 lineup, the Sony Bravia Z5100 lacks the same Live Color Creation technology and the same moniker designed for the Sony XBR9 LCD series. Live Color Creation technology creates more vibrant shades of color and is used in conjunction with the Bravia Engine 3.
Compare the Sony Z5100 vs W5100:
The Bravia W5100 Series is regularly sold for several hundred dollars less than models of equivalent size from the Z5100 series. As well, the Sony W5100 Series has 4 masked speakers in contrast to the 2 visible speakers of the Z5100. On the other hand, the W5100 series features a reduced refresh rate compared to the Z5100—120hz compared to 240hz, which provides faster, more realistic motion quality. Both models use the same CCFL backlighting system and Bravia Engine 3.
Compare the Sony Z5100 vs V5100:
The Bravia V5100 Series falls on the lower end of the Bravia 2009 spectrum. It lacks the same level of Internet features as the Z5100 and uses the less advanced Bravia Engine 2 in addition to having a reduced refresh rate of 120hz. However, it still features nearly the same range of picture adjusting controls and picture quality with a notably less expensive price tag.
Compare the Sony Z5100 vs S5100:
Even lower in price from the V5100 models, the Bravia S5100 Series has the same reduction of features as its V5100 brethren. However, it lacks Motionflow 120Hz technology and instead gets the standard 60Hz refresh rate, which leads to a small decrease in motion quality performance.

Thank you for this review!!! I especially appreciate the comparisons. So many sites gloss over that part.

This was great! I just ordered a 46XBR9 from Best Buy last week for $1599. Today I was shopping there for something else and saw that it had gone UP to $1799! Not bad. But then I saw a 46Z5100 for $1299!! I looked over the features, and all I could tell different was the number of HDMI ports (5 for the XBR vs 4).
So, I was pleased to find this on Google. The only difference I found is the Live Color Capture feature. Is this worth $300? They said I can change my order since I haven’t had it shipped to me yet.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
