“Only size differs; 40W5100 vs 46W5100 vs 52W5100″

Many people have wondered what the differences are between models in the W5100 lineup… The answer is simple—the only difference is the size of their respective screens in inches. There are a variety of subtle differences between the Sony XBR9, Z5100, W5100, V5100, S5100 series and others within… below are the most significant differences between them:

Compare Sony KDL-W5100 vs KDL-Z5100: The W5100 is often sold for several hundred dollars less than models of comparable size from the Z5100 series. The W5100 has 4 concealed speakers compared to 2 more visible ones. However, the W5100 series features a reduced refresh rate compared to the Z5100—120hz compared to 240hz, which provides faster, more realistic motion quality.

Compare Sony KDLW5100 vs KDLXBR9: In addition to the W5100 lacking the same 240hz refresh rate as the top of the line XBR9, the W5100 also uses a CCFL backlighting model compared to the more expensive WCG-CCFL of the XBR9. Also worth noting is that the XBR9 features Live Color Creation technology to produce more vibrant shades of color in comparison to the W5100.

Compare Sony W5100 vs V5100: The V5100 falls on the lower end of the Sony Bravia 2009 lineup. While it still features nearly the same level of picture adjusting controls as the W5100, it does not feature the same level of Internet connectivity or Bravia Internet Widgets. It also uses the less advanced Bravia Engine 2 compared to the Bravia Engine 3, resulting in a slightly reduced level of picture quality in exchange for a drop in price.

Compare Sony KDL-52W5100 vs KDL-52S5100: Even lower on the Sony Bravia scale, the S5100 series lacks 120hz MotionFlow technology, Internet connectivity and Bravia Internet Widgets, and uses an older Bravia Engine for reduced picture quality. The S5100, while lacking features, has a significantly reduced price in comparison to the W5100 series models of comparable size.
