Sony KDL52V4100 Review

Posted in (2008) Sony V4100 Series, Sony LCD

*NEW* The Sony V4100 series has been replaced by the 2009 Bravia V5100 series. The new 52 inch Sony KDL52V5100 LCD television includes much better performance, design and new exciting features and additions

“Easily the best bang for our bucks…”

I spent quite a bit of time making sure that I was going to get the absolute best television (Full HD) seeing as how $2000+ is quite a commitment, and a television for the whole family is definitely a 5-10year decision and long commitment, so getting one that isn’t up to par is like throwing time and thousands of dollars away.

I read many reviews of the Sony KDL52V4100 LCD as well as all the other Bravia series, Panasonic Vieras and new and really popular Samsung LCDs before ultimately deciding that the Bravia KDL-52V4100 was indeed what our family was looking for.

Now that we have owned Sony’s KDL52V4100 television for a couple of weeks, I thought I would swing by and add my own KDL52V4100 review online seeing as how I wasn’t able to locate too many reviews for this television when I was doing my initial research; it is a fantastic 52inch display, with amazing picture detail and a few quibbles:

Sony KDL52V4100 Review

The overall picture quality and sound quality is truly superb on the Bravia KDL 52V4100, and we have absolutely no complaints and are very satisfied with our new ‘Full High Definition’ HDTV, and the below faults and cons aren’t meant to swing people off this awesome set, only to allow future buyers to expect some of the following areas that the television could be improved upon.

Few imperfections of the Sony KDL52V4100:

  • For about $500 more you can 120 Hz in the not V-Series… Now this isn’t a con really in my book as I can’t really tell the difference from day to day viewing that 120hz scan mode makes, and thus the extra $500 for this wasn’t worth it for me, but if you do a lot of gaming or watch sports then it is probably a worthy investment for you to consider the 120hz KDL52W4100 or Z4100
  • There isn’t sufficient swivel/rotation… My older television allowed a good amount of pivot whereas the Sony Bravia KDL52V4100 (and presumably all their new televisions?) just sit there and is a pain in the butt to rotate around
  • The remote that comes with this thing was lacking, in basic ergonomics, confusion and left things to be desired out of a $2000+ entertainment investment.
  • There is noticeable lag that can be annoying; albeit a minor thing, when switching modes for instance where the 52V4100 goes sound and picture dead for what seems like a very long time
  • This thing seems to give off a ton of heat and eat up a lot of electricity; maybe this is just the power saver person in me, but anything that gives off that much heat must just be chewing up your electricity, and definitely invest in a good surge protection for this reason, no one wants a power surge with a $2000 electronic hooked up!

There are other things imperfect about the television obviously, but these are the most stand-out things I can think of to throw in a critical Sony kdl52v4100 review / analysis… All said and done the television is absolutely superb and exceeded expectations, people that said in the past that Sony products are overpriced might not think so after checking out the V or W series!

I definitely agree. Weare satisfied with ours and we enjoy watching in HD. We got it for a good price. This price is unbeatable for the size and quality of the tv. It’s not worth to put up $500 more for an unoticeable difference.

The 120 hz refresh rate makes a huge difference, but whether your willing to pay for this premium feature is up to you!I work in an electronics store and watch every tv on the market basically , for 13 hours a day. You can see a difference for every type of programming you watch with any type of motion. This is a great tv IMHO but the w Series is definately superior for a similar price! Just my .2
