Samsung's LN46A650 LCD TV Me and my roommate play a ton of video games and watch a lot of movies, and we put our money together and decided to research and find the absolute best 40-50” LCD HDTV that money could buy, and eventually ended up deciding on the LN46A650 LCD from Samsung for many reasons. First off, there were more perfect score Samsung LN46A650 reviews and analysis’s online than any other television, which spoke volumes about its quality, value and desirability, I mean we were doing our own research and reading tons of television reports to make sure we got the absolute best TV our money could buy, but the fact that so many people had also bought this television and then gave it perfect 5/5, 10/10 and 100/100 ratings really was the strongest indicators that many others had done their research and this is THE TELEVISION to get in the 46″ range this summer/fall.

Setting/Calibration of LN46A650 HDTV

Ln46A650 has many connectors

Setting up the television was pretty straight forward and easy, tons of connectors intelligently laid out on the side and back let us easily configure our consoles, receiver, sound, etc.. much better laid out side and rear panels with more options then my last Panasonic Viera HDTV.

The menus and features pretty straight forward as well and allow for tons of customization. We spent 20 minutes scrolling online and checking out some of the recommended settings we had read on some LN46A650 reviews before we bought, then tweaked a little bit from there till we found the picture to be the best, I’m at work right now righting this review so I’ll submit another article on what settings / calibration tuning we used and feel is the best for our dimly lit type of room. Lots of other options and add-ons too to play with that really add a lot of value to this television beside pure TV/movie/gaming.

Design/Appearance of Samsung LN-46A650

The LN 46A650 is incredibly light and thin, and we were easily able to mount it up in the room in no time at all and hide/clean up all the cords with a cheap little tubey thing we bought to keep it from looking like a dangling cord holder… the name of the mounting kit we used is slipping my mind right now, but it’s quite cheap, incredibly fast to setup and does an awesome job, I’ll double check the name of the mount when I get around to submitting my calibration / tweaking settings.

The glossy screen / polished black look is definitely quite slick, and really make the room look techy and advanced compared to old Viera plasma we had on a tv stand before. I heard on other Samsung ln-46a650 reviews that glossy screens aren’t as good as matte screens, but I definitely like it, and there isn’t much light that could cause glare anyhow in our type of room, not that I think it would be a major issue for someone with lightly lit rooms unless perhaps had those annoying sun rays directly on the screen.

Picture/Sound Quality of Samsung LN46A650 LCD

There is definitely a massive picture quality difference between on our old Panasonic Plasma (40” 720p vs. 46inch 1080p) and it is actually a lot more noticeable then I would have thought. Games on PS3 and Blu-Ray / HD-DVD movies look much much better on the LN46A650 Samsung TV, like a lot really.. We don’t have High Def cable, so not much difference really, but it really is superior in big ways on any high def source via HDMI cables.

Sound isn’t any better or worse than the old television as far as I can tell, again back in the menus there’s lots of customization ability and options you can turn on to get the sound to desired quality such as “SRS TruSurrond” and such which really changes the way the Samsung’s LN46A650 sound comes out. One thing I don’t really like is that the television doesn’t seem to get really loud, I am a crazy deep sleeper, but with 100/100 volume on the televisions alarm it still didn’t wake me up lol…

Pros of LN46A650

  • Incredibly light compared to old plasma, quite thin as well, can carry this no problems and mounting on wall is easy work
  • Incredibly slick looking television, glossy, polished, highlights of rose embedded in coating really highlight this slick 46 inch tv
  • Truly stunning picture quality, great black levels, high contrast, great clarity make playing games and watching High Def video/movies sooo enjoyable!
  • Great response time, 120HZ, and motion cleansing make this the best LCD for gaming and fast paced action out there, other LCDs have tearing, ghosting and motion lag which simply doesn’t affect the Samsung LN46A650 LCD.
  • Value – you won’t get a television for such a low price anywhere else, there is a reason this is the featured and #1 listed selling television out there right now, consumers have done their homework and the awesome produce has lead to word of mouth buzz, the television will sell itself to you once you compare its price to performance levels versus any other HDTV, such a clear choice buying the LN-46A650 was

Cons of LN46A650

  • Noticed its quite slow to catch onto HDMI signal sometimes, 3-4 seconds pause sometimes before it kicks into source
  • Lots of heat seems to come off my screen, maybe because wall mounted and vents on rear?
  • Sound doesn’t impress and could be improved, not very loud either
  • Glossy screen could produce more of a glare problem??
