Cons of Samsung PN63A650 63″ Plasma

  • Sucks up a lot of electricity – recommend an expensive surge bar to protect your electrical devices of this price
  • Gives off quite a bit of heat, more than I expected actually, maybe because its summer outside
  • Can assume this would be a pain in the ass to wall mount, wasn’t expecting it to weigh 200lbs either

Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous, stunning and satisfying purchase the Samsung PN63A650 has been! I was shopping around for a couple of weeks, reading tons of information and very geeky websites to make sure that I bought the best possible television, and in the end I narrowed my choice down to a large plasma television, namely the Samsung PN63A650, PN58A650 or PN58A550 models.

There were not a lot of Samsung PN63A650 reviews, nor really for the A650 series plasmas in general, but I bet that is just down to the fact that they are so new, as the slightly older 5 series PN50A550 and PN58A550 reviews stacked up quite quickly about 2 months into their release date. Regardless of the fact that there weren’t many consumer and customer reviews of Samsung’s pn63a650, there are a lot of highly technical discussion boards filled with super geeky enthusiasts and professional calibrators that said the PN 63A650 is easily the best bang for your buck in terms of performance:price ratio, and all the great opinions and comments of professionals and super HD nerds on the internet lead me to buy the Samsung PN-63A650 HDTV, and I’m very glad that I was turned onto this television!

This thing is a monster at 63inches, and the difference between my old 46” LN46A550 also from Samsung was stupid different really. I had a suspicion in my head that such a large size increase might truly detriment the overall picture quality, and I guess it sort of does if you’re not sitting far enough away from this, so probably best to choose the PN58A550 (58 inch 5 series) or PN58A650 (58inch 6 series) plasmas which share similar features and are equally highly regarded by experts if you will be sitting 10-14’ away from the TV.

Picture quality was truly amazing, and I can definitely tell the difference in clarity, colors and overall quality between this 6 series plasma and my old 5 series LCD… Nothing truly ground breaking, but easily better in many conditions, and coupled with the huge 17inch differential, truly marvelous for a person that uses their television quite a lot.

Some of my friends have joked that my house is like a mini movie theater now, and I guess it sort of is with this huge huge full HD display, and all my gadgets with really expensive high end sound system setup… I rather wait for a new movie to be released on Blu-Ray or High Definition now then go to the theater because I just enjoy the experience so much.
