LCD & Plasma HDTV Reviews

Pros noted in Sony KDL40W4100 Reviews:

The Sony W4100 Series has been climbing up the charts and quickly has became one of the most popular and talked about options in the 1080P, 120hZ, full featured LCD realm… Available in several sizes (The 52 inch KDL52W4100, 46 inch KDL46W4100 and 40 inch KDL40W4100) are all top 3 sellers in their respective size ranges, and they all have been receiving great review scores and feedback. Below are some of the more commonly reported strengths and pros from customer Sony KDL52W4100 Reviews online:

  • Picture: While not quite as nice at high end as the XBR (xbr6,xbr7, & xbr8 coming soon) or Z4100 series (available in two colors, silver and black on two sizes: 40inch KDL 40Z4100 & 46inch KDL 46Z4100) the Sony Bravia W4100 models still have better contrast ratio, clarity, and general picture quality as compared to similarly priced televisions from other manufacturers.
  • Price/Value: Recent price drops with the addition of the new flagship series makes the W4100 very price and value friendly.
  • Menus, Setup and Controls are all very user friendly, efficient, powerful and allow for a lot of customization to fit your individual tastes.
  • Sony’s Bravia clear screens are consistently stated in KDL W4100 reviews as simply superior to other brands. The clear panels allow for great natural color tones, big viewing angles, and aren’t as affected by reflection and glare as most others… and they still look sexy without that glossy look!
  • The Bravia engine as well as the 120 Hz refresh makes for some of the most natural and smooth action you can get on an LCD. The Bravia image processing keeps colors vibrant and realistic, while the 120 Hz reduces image blur / lag / ghosting…
  • Tons of little Pros and things that aren’t as important

Pros reported in Sony KDL40V4100 Reviews:

Sony’s V-Series has quickly become one of the lead selling HDTV line-ups, with its strong performance at a reduced price tag thanks to Sony’s cutting of some not-to-vital features such as Motion Smoothing at 120hz refresh (reduces motion blur and lag in fast action, a common complaint of LCD technology) The Sony KDL40V4100 reviews and reports online seems to agree that this 40″ Full HD LCD (v4100 series also available in 46″ KDL46V4100 and 52″ KDL52V4100 with only major difference being size) that is stunningly beautiful both on and off, at a more then attractive price tag when you look at what you would be spending on other Full HD 1080p 40inch sets with comparable picture and audio quality. Below are some of the most commonly reported strengths within the user and consumer Sony Bravia KDL40V4100 Reviews online in 2008:

  • Stunning picture quality compared to similarly priced 1080p 40inch televisions
  • Strong black level reproduction (a key component to overall picture clarity & quality) very high compared to similar LCDs, about the best you can get, minus the Plasma Televisions which inherently have better black levels (but present other problems)
  • Audio quality has been improved so it seems over Sony’s last line-up of 3000 series bravias
  • Very natural looking images thanks to strong contrast and the bravia engine image processing
  • Very Thin, Light, and aesthetically pleasing the Sony KDL-40V4100 is called the best looking by many shoppers of HDTVs in this range (shares design elements of other 2008 bravia series, so not an exclusive Strength of the KDL40V4100 LCD HDTV)
  • Quite a few more including fast setup, strong controls, low power consumption, easy and simple interface, among many other smaller more subtle notes from KDL 40V4100 Reviewers.

Cons Reported in Bravia KDL40V4100 Reviews:

Not perfect, this (V)alue minded television by no means has the best picture quality, smoothest motion effects, best sound or overall experience… but for the money it is right up there with the best of them, I have left out the weaknesses attributed to its value-minded performance, because after all that’s what segment of the market this television is developed for – mid range performance and features at a cheap price range. Some problems noted to the Sony Bravia V4100 series:

  • Reports of white dots sometimes popping up near the top of the screen are reported in more than a few instances, apparently they not too bad, only last a fraction of time, but annoying nonetheless some state.
  • Remote could be improved, there is no backlight (lighting up of keys) where most HDTVs have this feature now and is great for in the dark viewing.
  • Stand lacks range of motion for turning and adjustment, many sets nowadays of good swivel stands whereas Sony’s v series does not
  • Sound although improved upon is not very good, many people dislike watching such brilliant 1080p HD content that makes the sound seem dull. A sound system really brings this TVs display quality to life some have said after having added home theatre 5.1 speakers afterwards.
  • If you are a video game player, frequently watch movies, or are a hardcore sports watcher, you might want to step up to the Sony Bravia W Series (40 inch KDL40W4100 | 46 inch KDL46W4100 | 52 inch KDL52W4100 available) or the high end Z series (Only available in 40 & 46 inch sizes KDL40Z4100 & KDL46Z4100 respetively) for the 120hz image smoothing. It can make a large difference in the above 3 genres as ghosting or lag of the image through fast action will be noticeable.

Pros listed in Sony KDL40Z4100 Reviews:

Below are some of the more common Sony KDL40Z4100b and KDL40Z4100s pros and areas where customer reviews have stated the unit as being very strong. This is by no means a full reflection of all the things the Sony Bravia KDL-40Z100 has to offer and what is great ahttp://hdtvtutor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php
Comments 12bout it, only the certain qualities which most people commented on as being top notch when leaving there own Sony KDL40Z4100 reviews online at various online retailers and review websites:

  • Amazing Picture quality through new bravia engine and increased contrast levels results in top notch picture quality rivaling XBR5 series
  • Sound has received some adjustments on the Z4100 series resulting in more compliments
  • Incredibly realistic and ghost/artifact/lag free images even in heavy action.. with new image processing and Motion smoothing at 120HZ
  • Although it fetches a pretty penny, the KDL40Z4100’s Prices rival and beat consitently similar LCDs for the technologies included
  • Great customization and calibration controls allow for really fine tuning of specific individual preferences
  • Sony’s Matte style screen consistently give better viewing angles and glare reduction then similar Samsung, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc LCD HDTVS…

Cons listed in Bravia KDL40V4100 Reviews:

No product is perfect, and even though the Sony Bravia KDL40Z4100s and Sony KDL40Z4100b televisions have received much praise and an average of near perfect ratings across KDL-40Z4100 review collection and average as well as professional publications/magazines, the product does have its faults and areas in which it needs to be improved for the future generations of Z-Series LCDs. Below are some of the noted Cons and weaknesses of the 40” Sony Z series televisions available in both Silver and Black bezel designs:

  • Sound has been improved over older units but still leaves room for improvement unfortunately
  • Will require steady individual tweaking and calibration to utilize full picture capabilities based on enviroment and individual preferences
  • Quite expensive for a 40″ television, only recommended to those that truly want the most high end and future proof display & quality

Summary: Highest resolution HDTV available, great bargain, great features with few weaknesses

Pros: 1080p resolution, BRAVIA engine, smooth movements even without 120hz, great contrast and black contrast performance, gorgeous bezel and exterior

Cons: sound is a little weak, 52 inches may be too big for some people if not sitting far away from unit consider 46″ as viewing distance make big difference

Review of Sony V-Series KDL52V4100 by Jose Nieto:

Tired of my old tvs uncanny ability to “down convert” HD channels and movies into a format my tv could handle (which usually stretched or distorted the viewing experience), I decided to buy an HDTV. I wanted the best possible, one where I wouldn’t have to settle on quality for size, but I also wanted the big size too and thats what ultimately led me to the 52″ Sony Bravia KDL52V4100 LCD television. Convinced I would be forced to use several chunks of my paycheck, I went online and shopped around and in the mean time read many reviews of Sonys KDL52V4100 and the V series to make sure it was ranked favourably, but I knew I struck gold when I found the Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-52V4100. It incorporates all the latest in HDTV technologies minus a few of the unneeded ones to keep the price very nice and low, into a beautiful and large 52 inch screen which handles lighting and glare exceptionally… which just augments the entire viewing experience on Sony’s KDL52V4100 V-Series LCD HDTV. The BRAVIA engine and other technologies allowed me to watch all my movies and shows in full 1080p, and coupled with the deep accurate blacks, strong contrast and great natural looking image processing, the image quality blows me away daily.. NOTE: Sound is not this units strong point as I always turn on my sound system as leaving it off pains me to hear the difference of the normal KDL-52V4100 sound quality.. I was prepared for this however after reading other sony bravia kdl52v4100 reviews and reports about the sound quality and didn’t let it deter me from the steal of a deal as I already had the onyko home theater setup to go with it.

Samsung’s LN46A650 Reviewed by Kevin Bevill
(2008/10/14)

Strength: Can’t get better 40-46″ LCD for the price

Weakness: only problem noticed is painfully long loading / pause times

LN46A650 Review by Kevil Bevill

I have the LN46A650 Samsung along with the Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver. I also have the HD/DVR Cable box from Comcast. I too, did alot of research and followed the blogs many weeks before pulling the trigger. I sit every night and am still amazed at the picture quality of this TV. I know my wife gets tired of me saying “would you look how clear that is “? , but it’s true … for the price you can’t beat it.

The only problem I have had is the same thing mentioned in other samsung ln46a650 reviews and reports - it does take a long time once the TV is powered up to recognize the HDMI signal from the cable box. I also have a HDMI to my receiver and the TV will start at the cable box for the signal and then will go to the receiver and will stick on my Game/TV HDMI signal. It would be great if everytime I turned on the PC I was going to play with my PS3. I have to keep hitting my Cable/SAT button on the receiver remote until Samsung’s 46″ A650 LCD finally finds the signal. It’s somewhat a pain in the butt, but I have gotten used to it by now. Small price to pay for the great picture and sound through the receiver.

Thanks to Kevin B. For his thoughts on the Samsung 46″ A650 LCD HDTV

  • Beautiful exterior aesthetics and visual design / bezel
  • Feature rich and intuitive integrated features, simple yet powerful controls and setup
  • Very high bang for your buck factor on a full 1080p resolution LCD in the 46 inch range… due to skipping 120hz image smoothing

Weaknesses noted in Sony KDL-46V4100 Reviews:

Not perfect, the Sony KDL46V4100 Reviews also bring to light some of the areas on which sony might want to pay attention to on its upcoming series to make the new 40″, 46″ and 52″ W series of the future even more solid:

  • Requires a good amount of tweaking in both audio and visual adjustments to get true performance capabilities
  • Doesn’t have motion feature of 120hz.. Gamers, Sports watchers and heavy users will want to spend the extra money for the W series as 120hz makes a big difference for most hardcore users
  • Heat & noise noted as hot and semi-loud by a couple of people

Sony’s KDL-52W4100 (52inch w series) LCD television has been flying up the charts this week, and has overtaken the slightly less potent younger brother, the KDL52V4100 (V series… removes 120hz most notably) as the most purchased and buzzed about LCD television in the 52″ class on many shopping platforms around the web. The Sony Bravia KDL-52W4100 hasn’t been out for all that long, and as such there isn’t a huge amount of Sony KDL52W4100 reviews and expert reports in magazines and on the web to go by at the moment, but of the 30 or so customer reviews and reports I have read, there are many similarities, with the most common similarity being customer and user reporting it as a fantastic deal, a solid performer, and giving it top tier scores in all aspects of HDTV critique.
